Three steps, no shop visit

Year, make, model, and what the car is actually doing — noise, light, smell, won’t crank, cranks but won’t fire. We ask a few questions, tell you what it sounds like, and give you a price range before we commit to anything.

Your home, your work lot, a street spot in Lakeview, a garage in Portage Park. We bring the tools, the jack, the scanner and the parts we expect to need. If the diagnosis changes once we’re under it, we call you before spending a dollar more.

Card or cash, at the car, after you’ve heard it start. Old parts stay with you if you want to see them. No storage fee, no shop-supply fee, no charge for the days your car would have sat in a bay somewhere.
A shop needs your car for a day. That means a tow if it won’t start, a ride to work, a ride back, and a day of your life gone. We need about two hours in your parking spot and you can watch the whole thing from the porch if you want to.

Friday and Saturday we run around the clock — that’s when most won’t-start calls come in. If you reach voicemail, leave the address and the car’s details and we call back.
Our base is on Linder in the Portage Park / Belmont Cragin side of the Northwest Side, a couple of blocks off West Addison. You don’t need to come to us — that’s the point — but this is where the van loads up each morning.
Calling is the fastest way to get a real answer. Texting works too — send the year, make, model and a photo of the dashboard if a light is on.
Where we drive
We’re based on the Northwest Side, so the fastest response times are Portage Park, Belmont Cragin, Jefferson Park, Norwood Park, Hermosa, Logan Square, Avondale, Irving Park, Albany Park, Dunning, Montclare and Old Irving. Same-day is normal in those neighborhoods.
We also cover the rest of the city — Lakeview, Uptown, Edgewater, Rogers Park, Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, Pilsen, Bridgeport, Hyde Park, the Loop, the South and West Sides — and we cross into Cicero, Berwyn, Oak Park, Elmwood Park, Norridge, Harwood Heights, Niles, Park Ridge, Skokie, Evanston and River Forest. Longer drives may carry a small trip charge, and we’ll say so on the phone before you agree to anything.
